Sequestered away at an expansive ranch in northern Montana, this week-long writing retreat will dive into themes of hibernation, nature, and the creative nourishment that can be found deep beneath the layers of our every day lives.
It’s true we are writers, but you don’t have to be one to join us. We’re also experts in the realm of relationship to food, the science of nutrition, disordered eating, diet dogma, and how all of this can be impacted by our histories. Maybe that’s why we believe in the power of writing. We thought long and hard about how to create a space that offers room to explore our own relationship to self-nurturing and nourishment while fostering creative expression. This is a retreat for anyone who wants to step away from the noise of the world to more clearly hear their own voice. And we will celebrate the hell out of that.
We’ll also have a chef to prepare gorgeous meals, the option for yoga and movement daily, the surrounding nature to purify our souls, cozy fires around which we will gather, and a rhythm of writing that will beckon your stories to be told.
About the location: We’ll be staying at a large ranch with various options for boarding (shared and single rooms), beautiful spaces to dine together, and warm little corners for that welcome you to write or read.
About the guides: This retreat is brought to you by the creative brainstorm of Ammi Midstokke and Dawn Brockett Dawn is an award-winning author, chef, managing director of an international medical society and advisor to clinical trials in eating disorders who believes in the transformative power of creating a space quiet enough to hear and amplify one’s own voice.
About the methods: We collaborate with the wisdom and experience of Wide Open Writing, a collective of writers who have led retreats around the world, because their model is true to its word: It fosters the kind of wide open space, thought, freedom, encouragement, and feelings we need to tap into our creative selves. Their approach to positive feedback, nature as a form of nurture, and writing as an art available to all has been transforming writers and humans for over a decade.
