In this two-day workshop, you will be guided through a series of writing and improvisation activities to unfold the wonders of uncertainty and thriving in the creative unknown.
Using play, collaboration, courage, self-compassion, discussion, joy, discovery, community, surprise, insight, words, and wordlessness, we will sally into untapped potential. We aim to reduce limiting beliefs, procrastination, self-judgment, and resistance to whole-hearted creativity.

Wide Open Writing - The Lighthouse Retreat
Ammi joins Dulcie Witman and Wide Open Writing for the retreat of a lifetime, at a real lighthouse on a real island.
For anyone who has yearned for the sounds and tastes and smells of the Maine Coast. For anyone who has wanted to explore a lighthouse. For anyone who wants to drink coffee, reflect and write from an Adirondack chair perched on the porch of a classic New England Lighthouse on the Atlantic shores. For anyone who thinks morning yoga, writing, yummy food, good company, walking and swimming and kayaking and laughing and crying and more writing is what you’ve been seeking – well this is the writing retreat for you.
We’ll be serious with our writing and playful with ourselves and each other. We’ll arrive by boat for the week with permission and encouragement to settle and absorb the natural beauty of our surroundings. Wide Open Writers flourish together in this environment and sharing becomes a natural gift in the process. We gain from each other as well as this drop-dead gorgeous place.
Wide Open Writing First Sunday
Wide Open Writing hosts Ammi Midstokke to guide their WOW First Sunday creative writing group online! (Time is in Pacific Standard Time) Just follow the link to join!
There’s something about nature that transports us to another realm of existence, one in which we are both acutely aware of our interconnectedness and our insignificance. Our eyes and minds suddenly perceive millions of tiny, overlooked miracles. Have you ever really looked at a piece of granite or the millennial growth of lichen? How does it get so bright in an otherwise monochromatic landscape? Lichen is the party decor of the otherwise serious alpine terrain.
On this early May day, we’ll explore how nature awakens our senses to a more keenly perceived world and how existing in that space delivers the writer from even the most reluctant soul.
The Wishing Tree
Join us on a lovely Sunday afternoon for a read and conversation (and of course, tiny love notes written on the inside of your book covers) in the beautiful Wishing Tree bookstore!
